Medicine Pack
Quick Overview
For hundreds of years before modern medicine, herbs were the medicine of early Americans, both Native and European. Even today, herbs remain one of the primary sources of medical remedies in both modern laboratories and natural medicine. Heirloom Organics brings you the best selection of natural remedies available to the home gardener today. With an excellent selection chosen both for ease of growth and popularity of remedy. Protect your family today with The Medicine Pack I from Heirloom Organics.
Echinacea Angustifolia Americans may have used echinacea for more than 400 years to treat infections and wounds and as a general "cure-all." Today, people use echinacea to shorten the duration of the common cold and flu and reduce symptoms, such as sore throat (pharyngitis), cough, and fever. Many herbalists also recommend echinacea to help boost the immune system and help the body fight infections. Echinacea is well known for its anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Feverfew Used for centuries in European folk medicine as a remedy for headaches, arthritis, and fevers. The term feverfew is adapted from the Latin word febrifugia or "fever reducer."Feverfew is also used to treat menstrual irregularities, labor difficulties, skin conditions, stomach aches, and asthma.
Lavender Lavender has been used for centuries as an herbal remedy, and does indeed appear to have antiseptic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsive, and last but certainly not least - anti-depressant properties. Internally, Lavender is believed to be of benefit for a multitude of problems, including stress, anxiety, exhaustion, irritability, headaches, migraines, insomnia, depression, colds, digestion, flatulence, upset stomach, liver and gallbladder problems, nervousness, loss of appetite, and as a breath freshener and mouthwash. Inhaling the essential oil in some cases has been reported to work as well as narcotics for inducing relaxation and sleep, easing symptoms of depression, and reducing headache pain.
Fennel Fennel has through history been considered an appetite depressant, and as such, a weight loss aid. Recommended a Tea to increase the flow of milk in nursing mothers. Menopausal women may want to try it to ease the associated symptoms. Fennel Teas, or Fennel Water have been used throughout history to break up kidney stones, quiet hiccups, prevent nausea, aid digestion, prevent gout, purify the liver, reverse alcohol damage to the liver, and treat jaundice. For babies, it is said to to relieve colic and flatulence, and to expel worms. It may be effective when used along with conventional treatments in prostate cancer (and it is definitely worth trying, but consult with your doctor first). The tea can also be gargled as a breath freshener and applied as an eye wash. Alternatively, the leaves can be dried, pulverized into a powder, and made into Capsules for when it's not convenient to utilize a tea.
Lemon Balm Lemon balm, a member of the mint family, is considered a "calming" herb. It was used as far back as the Middle Ages to reduce stress and anxiety, promote sleep, improve appetite, and ease pain and discomfort from indigestion. Today, lemon balm is often combined with other calming, soothing herbs, such as valerian, chamomile, and hops, to help promote relaxation.
Stinging Nettle Stinging nettle has been used for hundreds of years to treat painful muscles and joints, eczema, arthritis, gout, and anemia. Today, many people use it to treat urinary problems during the early stages of an enlarged prostate (called benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH), for urinary tract infections, for hay fever (allergic rhinitis), or in compresses or creams for treating joint pain, sprains and strains, tendonitis, and insect bites.
Valerian Valerian is a central nervous system relaxer, and as such has been used as a calming sleep aid for over 1,000 years. When taken in the proper dosage, Valerian can induce restful sleep without grogginess the next morning, unlike prescription drugs that mimic it's properties, such as Valium. It is an effective stress reducer, and has benefit in cases of nervous tension, depression, irritability, hysteria, panic, anxiety, fear, stomach cramping, indigestion due to nervousness, delusions, exhaustion, and, of course, nervous sleeplessness. It also appears to have real benefits in cases of sciatica, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, shingles, and peripheral neuropathy, including numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, and pain in the extremities.

Greens Pack
Quick Overview
The Heirloom Organics Non-Hybrid Greens Pack is a collection of some of the most nutritious greens available. Providing a high concentration of nutrients with fast-growing, easy-to-grow varieties for fresh eating in green salads or as excellent cooked vegetables. The Heirloom Organics Non-Hybrid Greens Pack even includes Amaranth (a highly nutritious vegetable leaf from South America, often grown as grain as well). The Greens Pack contains 7 varieties of the most nutritious greens.
Amaranth: Red Garnet
Amaranth is a broadleaf plant that could be mistaken for soybeans early in the growing season by someone driving past a field. Late in the season, however, there is no mistaking this striking, tall crop which develops brilliantly colored grain heads producing thousands of tiny seeds. Amaranth was a major food of the Aztecs and earlier American cultures, having been domesticated thousands of years ago.
Collards: Georgia
One of the most nutritious of all greens. Collards are extremely popular in the South, and their popularity is growing rapidly in all other regions. Plants are easy to grow, tolerant of heat and cold and very rich in vitamins and minerals. The juicy leaves are delicious boiled, steamed, or as an addition to salads.
Kale: Red Russian
A cold hardy delicate, flavorful variety of kale. Its leaves are frilly and oak leaved in shape and red veined, greenish purple in color. Ideal for fall crops. Enjoy its greens fresh in salads or steamed and stir fried alone or with other vegetables.
Kale: Blue Scotch
This heirloom garden kale has finely curled, blue-green leaves. It is compact and very attractive, as well as highly nutritious. It is used fresh in salads, on sandwiches and steamed cooked. This variety better withstands colder weather than other varieties.
Kohlrabi
Kohlrabi is a hardy biennial member of the cabbage family. It was first recorded being grown in northern Europe in 1554, and had reached North America at least by the early 1800's. The name is a German word meaning cabbage (kohl) - turnip (rabi), describing the turnip-like enlargement of the stem above the soil. Leaves stand out like spokes from the edible portion, the rounded stem section, which is commonly referred to as a bulb (even though botanically it is not a bulb). Although it is quite exotic looking, it is merely a different horticultural form of the same species to which common cabbage, kale, broccoli, and cauliflower belong. Its flavor is similar to that of turnips but milder and sweeter.
Spinach
Calorie for calorie, leafy green vegetables like spinach with its delicate texture and jade green color provide more nutrients than any other food. Spinach is becoming more popular as evidenced by increases in consumption of both fresh (salads) and processed spinach. It is high in vitamins and minerals. Spinach reaches edible maturity quickly and thrives best during the cool, moist seasons of the year. During periods of warm weather and long days, spinach will produce seed. This cold-hardy crop can with-stand hard frosts with accompanying temperatures as low as 20 0F. Spinach can be overwintered for early spring production in many areas of the state.
Swiss Chard
Either steamed, stir-fried, or young foliage eaten fresh, Swiss chard is an excellent kitchen green. With sufficient moisture, it won't bolt in summer - leaves can be harvested from late spring until first frost. Tolerates partial shade well.

Tomato Lovers Pack
Quick Overview
There are a great many (around 7500) tomato varieties grown for various purposes. Heirloom tomatoes are becoming increasingly popular, particularly among home gardeners and organic producers, since they tend to produce more interesting and flavorful crops. The Heirloom Organics Heirloom Tomato Pack contains many of the most popular Heirloom Varieties available today. You will enjoy the colors and flavors of the old original varieties in your own garden.
The Tomato is an herbaceous, usually sprawling plant in the Solanaceae or nightshade family, as are its close cousins potatoes, chili peppers, tobacco, eggplant and the poisonous belladonna. It is a perennial, often grown outdoors in temperate climates as an annual. The tomato is native to South America. The tomato is now grown worldwide for its edible fruits, with thousands of cultivars having been selected with varying fruit types, and for optimum growth in differing growing conditions. Cultivated tomatoes vary in size from tomberries, about 5mm in diameter, through cherry tomatoes, about the same 1–2 centimetres (0.4–0.8 in) size as the wild tomato, up to "beefsteak" tomatoes 10 centimetres (4 in) or more in diameter.
Heirloom Brandywine
Yields a heavy crop of firm, clear skinned, light rosy pink fruits on plants with potato like leaves. The standard for flavor.
Heirloom Cherokee Purple
The flesh is a unique brick red color with a rose/purple skin color. From Tennessee is extremely productive and has a very rich tomato flavor. Deliciously sweet.
Heirloom Green Zebra
Ripens to a green color, with cream/yellow spots and stripes. The flavor is generally considered excellent and this variety often makes top ten lists for its taste.
Heirloom Tomatillo Verde
The plants are multibranching, 3-4' tall, and extremely prolific. The fruits are about the size of large cherry tomatoes and covered with easy-to-remove brown papery husks which conceal the dark green, smooth skin.
Heirloom Yellow Plum
A very old variety. The plants are large and open with small oval fruit, 1 x 1¼ inches, that taste mild and sweet. There are typically 8 to 10 fruits per cluster, some late fruits have slight neck. Very productive.
Rutgers
Rutgers has proven itself for years to be highly productive. Large, attractive fruits with thick, solid flesh. Superior flavor, delicious in salads, unsurpassed for home canning. Indeterminate.
Roma
Roma Tomato or Roma is a plum tomato which is commonly found in supermarkets. The tomato is a meaty, egg- or pear-shaped tomato that is available in red and yellow. It has few seeds and is a good canning and sauce tomato.

Arugula: Roquette
Arugula is an aromatic, peppery salad green. It is also known as roquette, rocket, rugula and rucola, and is very popular in Italian cuisine. It grows wild in Asia and all over the entire Mediterranean --- and has been known to be cultivated and enjoyed in places as exotic as the north of Sudan. In Roman times arugula was grown for both its leaves and the seed. The seed was used for flavoring oils.
Endive: Green Curled Ruffec
Endive is a half-hardy biennial that is grown as an annual. It has a large rosette of toothed, curled, or wavy leaves that are used in salads as a substitute for lettuce.
Lettuce: Bibb
Bibb lettuce, also known as limestone lettuce, is a variety of butterhead lettuce with loose, delicate, and crisp but tender leaves. It was first grown by Jack Bibb, a Kentucky amateur horticulturist, in the late 1800s, which is where its name originated. However, it is also known as limestone lettuce due to the limestone found in the soil where it was first grown.
Lettuce: Oakleaf
The flavor of Oakleaf is distinctive. It has a slight mineral component combined with nuttiness, and rather than the tang of Romaine, there's the suggestion of white wine. The leaves are thin and tender. If you use it in sandwiches, they should be eaten shortly after preparation, as the lettuce will wilt otherwise. If you use it in salad, you probably want to use a thin dressing, rather than burden the leaves with a heavy cream. The lettuce's flavor will go well with the usual salad accessories (tomato, cucumber, scallions) and is a good complement for almonds or walnuts, too. The color and shape of Oakleaf make it useful as a garnish or as a base for presenting various other foods, but it would be a shame to leave the leaves uneaten.
Lettuce: Red Salad Bowl
Add a splash of color to salads! Reddish-bronze leaves are long, deeply lobed and have a delicate flavor and texture. Slow bolting variety allows for a long harvesting period.
Lettuce: Romaine Parris Island
Named for Parris Island off the coast of South Carolina, this old favorite Romaine deserves a try by any lettuce lover. 'Crunchy leaves', 'creamy white heart', and 'vigorous' are just a few of the words that describe this variety.
Mesclun Mix
Mesclun lettuce is also known as wild or baby lettuce. Mesclun isn't a single variety of lettuce. Rather, it's a combination of several varieties of loose leaf lettuces, all in one seed packet. It originally came from European nations specifically the Italian and French regions. Today it's gaining popularity all around the world. The dictionary definition states it can also contain a variety of herbs and even edible flowering plants. Gardeners love this loose leaf mixture, as it spells "variety" in the salad bowl. Mesclun lovers savor the varying colors, textures, and tastes. Grow mesclun lettuce for a delicious addition to any salad.
